It’s something we’ve all been asked. I’ve never been a fan of it, but ever since I set out on my own career path, it fills me with dread:
“What do you do for work?”
Ask me anything else, please. I know people mean well when they ask it, but most people hate their jobs and want to get away from them as fast as possible. You might as well ask, “What’s your favorite wasp?”
And yet somehow, we’ve all agreed that without a wasp, you’re not really a person. So now, every time someone asks about my wasp, my thoughts proceed as follows.
At some point I’ll probably stop caring what people think. But I’ve only been at this for nine months, and it takes time to adapt to a new mindset. Either that, or I’ll just say I’m between wasps.

Years ago when I went to my 10 year high school reunion I went around and asked everyone what they were doing for work. I thought I was just making conversation but years later I realized that probably made a lot of people uncomfortable. I'm glad you noted it's well intended. And thanks for sharing what it's like to take the big, bold step of doing comedy full time.
That graph map thingy made me LOL
